The Pincoya Storm-Petrel is distinguished from Elliot's Storm-Petrel by its much bolder, whiter bar across the upper surface of the wing and more white on the vanes of the outer rectrices. Both species share a white belly patch, but these wing and tail features are key to telling them apart.

Look for the bold white wing bar and increased white on the tail of the Pincoya Storm-Petrel. Observe behavior: Pincoya's plunge-diving and 'mouse-run' can be distinctive.
