Brazilian Teal vs Baikal Teal

The Brazilian Teal and Baikal Teal can be distinguished by their plumage and behavior. The Brazilian Teal is more uniformly colored, while the Baikal Teal male has a strikingly patterned face. Behaviorally, Baikal Teal are known for their large, dense winter flocks and unique spiraling flight patterns.

Look for the striking face pattern of the male Baikal Teal, especially the green and yellow face with a white stripe. Observe flock behavior; Baikal Teals form large, dense flocks with spiraling flight patterns, unlike the more solitary Brazilian Teal. Note the habitat: Baikal Teals are more likely found in East Asian rice fields during winter.

Both species are small ducks, but the Baikal Teal is slightly larger and more robust than the Brazilian Teal.
