Spangle-cheeked Tanager vs Plain-coloured Tanager

The Spangle-cheeked Tanager is distinguished by its heavily spangled upperparts, which are unique within its range. In contrast, the Plain-colored Tanager lacks such distinctive spangling, making it appear more uniform in color. Both species are geographically isolated, with the Spangle-cheeked Tanager found in the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama.
